In the last several years, former NBA Star Lamar Odom has gone through plenty of difficult times off the court that included struggling with his drug addiction to cocaine.
This all came to a head with his near death in October 2015 when he was found unconscious in a brothel in Nevada. He was shortly thereafter in a coma for approximately four days and has continued his recovery from the situation.
In a recent personal piece for the Players' Tribune, Odom detailed his addiction to the drug that almost took his life.
At that point in my life, I was doing coke every day. Pretty much every second of free time that I had, I was doing coke. I couldn’t control it.
I didn’t want to control it.
It was something that took complete control of every aspect of his life on and off the court. This prematurely ended his NBA career while putting everything else away from it in jeopardy.
This has continued to remain an uphill battle for Odom in his personal life that has seen him go to rehab to help get past his prior drug addiction. Although he has shown improvement, it's always going to be something that he has to deal with for the rest of his life.
The fact that he has addressed it publicly is a major step toward being able to overcome the personal battles that will lie ahead.
