With Lionel Messi's deal with Barcelona expiring rather soon, many are wondering if the superstar could leave for another club. Well, now, some fuel has been added to the fire of those rumors.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Messi's father, Jorge, is purchasing a house in Milan and plans to complete his move to Italy this year.

Not surprisingly, this has sparked speculation that Messi could potentially sign with an Italian team after his contract is up. Inter Milan, one of the most prestigious clubs in Italy, has been mentioned as a possible landing spot for the legend.

Should Messi link up with Inter, it would place him in Serie A. Given Serie A is in Italy, Messi would find himself in a much more favorable environment in terms of taxes as opposed to Spain.

Lionel Messi has spent his entire professional career with Barcelona.

The 33-year-old superstar made his pro debut back in 2004 and quickly began to establish himself as one of the sport's biggest stars. During the 2011-12 campaign, Messi racked up 50 goals, and the following year, he totaled 46.

Messi, who hails from Argentina, has logged over 40 goals three times throughout his career and is a six-time Ballon d'Or award winner. He has also led Barcelona to 10 La Liga championships and four Champions League titles.

Widely viewed as one of the best players to ever step on the pitch, Messi's potential departure from Barcelona would undoubtedly set off a firestorm.

And who knows? Perhaps Lionel Messi will be the guy to put Inter back on the map.
