One might assume the Detroit Lions would relish the spotlight. Perpetually overlooked in the NFC North due to the presence of prestige franchises like the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears, the Lions also fall victim to the inevitable effects of playing in flyover country. Nobody cared about the Kansas City Chiefs, for instance, despite the team's five consecutive winning seasons under Any Reid until Patrick Mahomes set the NFL ablaze in 2018. The Lions don't have the luxury of employing a surefire future superstar, either.

Given their relatively anonymous standing with respect to the rest of the league, why wouldn't the Lions want as much exposure as possible? They very well may, but that doesn't mean Matt Patricia wants his team to be portrayed on the latest season of Hard Knocks – and he has an idea which of Detroit's competitors should be profiled this time around.

“I think Jon Gruden is an excellent choice for that show,” Patricia said, per ESPN's Michael Rothstein. “I think the Oakland Raiders and everything they've got going on right now would be fantastic viewing for everybody to watch.”

The Lions are one of five teams that will be obligated to appear on the HBO documentary series if chosen. Others are the Raiders, San Francisco 49ers, New York Giants and Washington Redskins. Teas are exempt from being forced to appear on the show if they either have a first-year head coach, made the playoffs each of the past two seasons, or have been featured on Hard Knocks in the last 10 years.

Frankly, the largely-unfiltered inner-workings of any team during training camp would make for riveting television. But the Raiders, with Gruden at the helm and in the complicated midst of an upcoming move to Las Vegas? Bring on that soap-opera-like drama, please.
