The Texas Longhorns have enjoyed a solid last couple of seasons, making it back to the NCAA Tournament in each year after failing to make the Big Dance in the previous two campaigns. However, the Longhorns bowed out in the first two rounds in their most recent appearances.

With point guard Marcus Carr and forward Timmy Allen, two of their leading scorers, set to return in 2022 and talented freshmen Arterio Morris and Dillon Mitchell incoming, things are looking up for the Longhorns. Not only that, but Texas landed the top available transfer on Friday, former Iowa State star and Big 12 Freshman of the Year, Tyrese Hunter, per The Athletic.

Last year's Big 12 Freshman of the Year, Hunter was a strong contributor for Iowa State, averaging 11 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game. He helped lead the Cyclones to an NCAA Tournament berth of their own.

Hunter, who was one of the best defenders in the Big 12 last year, will form a strong backcourt duo with Carr for Longhorns head coach Chris Beard.

It's been a strong offseason for Beard, as 247 Sports ranks his 2022 recruiting class as fifth in the nation. With incumbent starters returning, two five-star recruits incoming and Hunter arriving via the transfer portal, Texas seems to be trending towards a strong season in 2022.
