One could last hours debating on just which college football team is the greatest of all-time. Over the past 20 years, numerous teams made a strong case to be called the best college football side ever, including the Reggie Bush-led 2004 USC Trojans.

For Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson, as he noted during a Bleacher Report AMA, he believes that LSU's national championship-winning squad from 2019 should be at the top of this list.

“I would say it’s the best to ever play college football,” Jefferson said. “All the different awards and accolades that we have accomplished, going undefeated, us beating Bama—a lot of things that we accomplished throughout that year. Our stats prove also it too, us breaking so many different records.”

The former LSU wideout also took some time to reflect on when he knew this Tigers team was going to surpass expectations.

“It really clicked for me in the spring,” Jefferson said. “Our defense at LSU was always one of the best in the country. Once we started killing the defense and making them mad in practice, it really became a thing for us where we felt we were becoming a really good offense. And we knew our defense was always going to step up.

“Having the players that we had on offense and our coaches coming in with the game plan—we had a great time reaching that championship.”

The LSU squad from 2019 orchestrated one of the more dominant runs to a national title win in the history of the sport, which included double-digit victories over Georgia in the SEC title game and against both Oklahoma and Clemson in the College Football Playoff.

As Jefferson touched on, numerous Tigers players in that season shattered multiple records. Among them, Joe Burrow set the SEC single-season records for passing yards (5,671) and passing touchdowns (60).

LSU made history off the field as well, as it watched five talents from its national title-winning team be selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, including Jefferson.

As mentioned, one could debate for quite a while about which team is the best in college football history, and LSU’s squad in 2019 sure is among those in the discussion.
