Amid A Quiet Place: Day One‘s press tour, Lupita Nyong’o has shared her displeasure with press junket interviews.

During an interview with Glamour Magazine, Nyong’o was asked about the most irritating aspect of her job.

“Interviews,” she replied. “You asked. I have to be honest. I’m going to tell you.”

Granted, Lupita Nyong’o did clarify that she doesn’t mean all interviews. She doesn’t like press junkets, something she calls a “torture technique” where “different people are being ferried in” as they ask the same questions.

“You have to give each one of them attention, focus, and an articulate answer that you just gave to the person before,” she explained. “That’s irritating.”

To be fair, press junkets are a hectic circus. Journalists typically receive four minutes or so to ask stars questions about their project.

When she was younger, Nyong’o placed more emphasis on being perfect “for every encounter.” However, in the years since she has accepted that some days are better than others.

“These days I allow myself to be a human being,” Nyong’o said. “I’ve just found a way of forgiving myself for not being perfect.”

Lupita Nyong’o is an Oscar-winning actress whose earliest roles include the short film East River and the television series Shuga. In 2013, Nyong’o starred in Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave. The film received nine Oscar nominations and won three including Best Picture. Nyong’o took home Best Supporting Actress for her performance.

She subsequently starred in Non-Stop before landing a role in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. She played Maz Kanata in all three installments of the trilogy.

From there, Nyong’o starred in The Jungle Book and Queen of Katwe before she received her biggest role to date. In 2018, Nyong’o starred in Black Panther as Nakia. She would reprise the role in the sequel film, Wakanda Forever.

Her other film credits include Little Monsters, Us, and The 355. On the small screen, Nyong’o reprised her Star Wars roles in the animated series Forces of Destiny and Rebels. Additionally, she has narrated documentaries such as Serengeti and Who Are You, Charlie Brown?

A Quiet Place: Day One

Currently, Nyong’o is promoting Paramount’s A Quiet Place: Day One. It is the third entry in the franchise and serves as a prequel to the first two films. The film depicts the beginning of the alien invasion in New York City.

Joseph Quinn stars alongside Nyong’o in the film. Alex Wolff, Djimon Hounsou, and Eliane Umuhire also star in the film.

Michael Sarnoski wrote and directed the film. He developed the story with John Krasinski, who directed the first two films in the franchise.

A Quiet Place was released in 2018. Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe starred in the horror film. The story was conceived by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, who co-wrote the screenplay with Krasinski.

It was a big hit. A Quiet Place grossed over $340 million worldwide at the box office on a budget of just $17 million. Of course, a sequel was green-lit. A Quiet Place Part II was released in March 2020 and grossed just under $300 million.

With films like The Fall Guy and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (another prequel) underperforming at the box office, it remains to be seen if A Quiet Place: Day One can turn the summer movie season around.
