The Dallas Mavericks are headed to the NBA Finals after their dominant game five win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday. The Timberwolves were the favorite to win the Western Conference Finals when the series started, but the Mavericks made quick work of them as they won the series in five games. Kyrie Irving was huge for Dallas in game give as he dropped 36 points, and he has been huge throughout the playoffs for his team.

Kyrie Irving has been in the league since 2011 and he played for four different teams now. He started his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and he played for the Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets before coming to Dallas. He has been with the Mavericks for two seasons now.

Zach Lowe discussed Irving's trade to Dallas on The Lowe Post podcast, and he talked about how well this trade has gone for both Irving and the Mavericks.

“A trade that, we don’t need to belabor grades KP, I’m not here to do that, but that I panned, lots of people panned not for basketball reasons for all the other all the other reasons,” Zach Lowe said. “A year and change later not only is the trade of success, I said this earlier in the week if they pull this off and win a championship.”

Lowe even mentioned that the Mavericks could eventually be able to be in the best backcourt ever conversation if they can continue to play at a high level for years to come. There's a long way to go there, but it's possible.

“And they get three, four, five, more years of this level of play from these two guards, then you can really start the best back court ever conversation, because it's Steph [Curry] and Klay [Thompson] until further notice, but what you can really start at that point if they can play like this and lead this team to championship contention year after year, Dorian Finney Smith, Spencer Dinwiddie, one first round pick this would become one of the greatest trades in the history of basketball,” Lowe said.

So far so good for the Mavericks with this trade, and they are now headed to the NBA Finals.

Mavericks vs. Celtics for all the marbles

The conference finals ended quickly as the Boston Celtics swept the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals, and Kyrie Irving and the Mavericks took down the Timberwolves in five games in the Western Conference Finals. Now, there will be no NBA basketball for a week. The NBA Finals will get started on June 6th.

Dallas is one series away from pulling off an incredible playoff run, but it's not going to be easy to get past the Celtics. Boston has lost just two games this postseason, and they had far and away the best record in the NBA during the regular season. They are the favorite to win it all, but the Mavericks have no problem being the underdog.

If Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic continue to play like the best backcourt ever, Dallas is going to have a good shot at pulling off the upset over the Celtics. They have both been outstanding in the playoffs so far, and they will need to be great if the Mavericks want to win it all. This series is going to be a lot of fun.

Game one of the NBA Finals will get going on Thursday night and it will be played in Boston. The game will get started at 8:30 ET, and it will be airing on ABC. The Celtics are currently favored by 6.5 points.
