Kyrie Irving and the Dallas Mavericks are currently in the midst of a special postseason run as they are three wins away from going to the NBA Finals. The Mavericks took down the Minnesota Timberwolves in game one of the Western Conference Finals on the road, and they are now in a great position to win the series. Before Irving was in the NBA, he played his college ball for the Duke basketball team, and his former Blue Devils teammate recently discussed the obsession that Irving had with Waffle House.

Right now, Kyrie Irving is focused on getting the Mavericks to the NBA Finals, but when he was in college, Waffle House was a big thing that he focused on. Apparently, Duke basketball head coach Mike Krzyzewski had to have an intervention with him because of it.

Irving's Duke basketball teammate Nolan Smith recently discussed the Waffle House obsession during an episode of the Run Your Race Podcast, and it sounds like Irving had an addiction.

Theo Pinston: “Did Kyrie have a Waffle House problem?”

Nolan Smith: “Yeah he loved Waffle Houses.”

Theo Pinson: “He used to say that s**t all of the time, Coach K had to have a talk with him about it.”

Nolan Smith: “He loved Waffle Houses, he got down there and went crazy. We used to go down Hillsborough Road all the time, all the time.”

Waffle Houses are good, but Irving's obsession with it is certainly a unique one.

Kyrie Irving is now a vegan

Kyrie Irving has now been a vegan since 2017, so he probably isn't focused on Waffle House as much as he did during his college days. Waffle House doesn't seem like the type of place that would have the best vegan options.

Irving's only focus right now is the Western Conference Finals. He has been outstanding in the postseason so far for the Mavericks, and he has his eyes on the ultimate prize: an NBA championship.

Kyrie Irving and the Mavericks will look to steal another road game on Friday night as they will be back in Minnesota for game two. The game will get started at 8:30 and it will be airing on TNT. The Timberwolves are favored by 5.5 points.
