The Dallas Mavericks may have already resolved their need for a point guard during last month's draft when they were able to select Dennis Smith Jr., but that won't stop them from adding more depth at the position.

It has been reported by the New York Post's Marc Berman that the team is emerging as a serious contender to land the services of former MVP and All-Star point guard Derrick Rose, who is currently an unrestricted free agent.

Rose played last season with the New York Knicks and had a very solid campaign, with averages of 18.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game. He also appeared in 64 contests for them before being forced to miss the end of the regular season after tearing the meniscus in his left knee. He underwent surgery immediately and is now on schedule with his recovery, which will make him available for the start of next season.

Should the Mavs be successful in securing Rose's services, it will be interesting to see how they will address their log jam at the point guard spot as they already have Smith, J.J. Barea, Yogi Ferrell, Seth Curry, and Devin Harris on their roster as well.
