The Mavs have touched base with veteran NBA center Joakim Noah, according to Tim MacMahon of ESPN.

The Mavs lost Dwight Powell to a season-ending Achilles injury on Tuesday:

Noah played 42 games for the Memphis Grizzlies last season. He averaged 7.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 51.6 percent from the field.

Noah worked out for the Los Angeles Lakers after LA lost DeMarcus Cousins to an ACL tear. The Lakers wound up signing Dwight Howard over Noah and Marreese Speights.

The Mavs, after losing to the Los Angeles Clippers at home on Tuesday, are now 27-16 on the season. They are in fifth place in the Western Conference standings.

Noah, a former All-Star and Defensive Player of the Year, has career NBA averages of 8.8 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 667 games with the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks and Grizzlies.

The Mavs would have to create a roster spot to sign a center.
