Dallas Mavericks point guard Dennis Smith Jr. and Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle haven't been on the same page this season and it's part of the reason why Dallas wants to trade the second-year guard, according to Adrian Wojnarowski and Tim MacMahon of ESPN.

Carlisle reportedly has been irked by Smith Jr.'s decision making. The explosive guard is averaging 3.1 turnovers per game this season.

Coach Rick Carlisle and Smith have struggled to find a common ground, league sources said. The arrival of rookie of the year favorite Luka Doncic has pushed Smith off the ball and changed the trajectory of his role with the team.

Carlisle has often been frustrated with Smith's decision-making, league sources said.

With Mavs rookie phenom Luka Doncic handling the ball more this year, Dennis Smith Jr. has been forced to play the two-guard position and he is reportedly not happy with that. Smith Jr. has been the point guard on his teams every since his AAU days.

The ninth overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, Smith Jr. is currently dealing with a back injury which has forced him to miss the last three games. He has also been suffering from a lingering right wrist injury.
