Dennis Smith Jr. is viewed as among the rising stars in the league. The Dallas Mavericks point guard has not quite yet reached the level where he’s absolutely considered a superstar, but he’s on pace to get there. For the meantime, the young, athletic, and explosive Mavs guard remains a player dreaming of being mentioned in the same sentence as some of the dudes he mentioned when asked who will compose his all-time starting five unit.

For the record, Smith named Derrick Rose as his point guard, Michael Jordan as his shooting guard, LeBron James at the small forward position, Dirk Nowitzki manning the four spot, and Shaquille O’Neal as the man in the middle. That’s a solid lineup right there.

With the exception of Rose, the others are either in the Hall of Fame or are virtually guaranteed of a spot in Springfield. There might be some problem with stretching the floor, as no one outside of Nowitzki is a knockdown shooter from behind the arc, but no one’s going to stop this team from finding the bottom of the net either.

Going back to Dennis Smith Jr., the second-year Mavs guard is having a good offseason so far. He averaged 12.0 points and 6.0 assists in two games in this year’s Summer League.
