Since being drafted 18th overall by the Dallas Mavericks, Josh Green has slowly proven his worth. Following a breakout third season in the league last year, Green and the team have come to terms on a new contract after reports surfaced earlier in the week that the two sides were close to a deal.

On Monday, the Mavs and Green agreed to a three-year, $41 million contract extension that keeps him under contract in Dallas through the 2026-27 season, first reported by The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Green, 22, was drafted 18th overall in 2020 by the Mavs and emerged as a key weapon out on the wing alongside Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Last season, the young swingman averaged 9.1 points and 3.0 rebounds per game while shooting 53.7 percent from the floor and 40.2 percent from three-point range. All of these marks were new career-highs for Green.

Monday marked the final day in which teams could sign 2020 first-round draft picks to an extension, otherwise they would hit restricted free agency next offseason. Ahead of the deadline, Green and the Mavs came to terms on a new deal that allows him the opportunity to continue growing into one of the team's focal points.

Ever since drafting him, the Mavericks have held a firm stance on keeping Green despite interest existing from rival teams. Following his emergence this past year, it became clear that Dallas had no intentions of trading Green.

Recently participating in the 2023 FIBA World Cup with Australia, Green has shown tremendous growth since entering the NBA and will hold a big role on both ends of the court for the Mavs this season.
