The New York Knicks traded young big man Kristaps Porzingis to the Dallas Mavericks earlier in the week, an unexpected deal that rocked the NBA world.
The move happened after what was reportedly a tense meeting between Porzingis and Knicks executives, resulting in the Latvian asking for a trade.
Porzingis' displeasure with New York is nothing new, as there have been rumblings of his discontent with the organization for a couple of years now.
At this point, the 23-year-old can finally move on, but he apparently still harbors some bad blood for the Knicks:
When the Knicks selected Porzingis with the fourth overall pick of the 2015 NBA Draft, the selection was met with boos and angst from long-suffering New York fans.
However, the moment the 7-foot-3 phenom showed Knicks fans what he was capable of during his rookie campaign, he quickly won the fans over, with many deeming him New York's franchise player moving forward.
But like just about everything else for the Knicks over the better part of the last two decades, things did not exactly go as planned.
Last year, during Porzingis' third season, the center tore his ACL in February, an injury that has kept him sidelined until this day. With restricted free agency looming for the kid dubbed “The Unicorn,” some wondered if the Knicks would be willing to give the injury-plagued Porzingis a max deal.
Obviously, it didn't happen, as New York ended up trading Kristaps Porzingis before he was even able to become a free agent. We'll just have to wait and see what else the big man has to say about his sudden trade to Dallas.
