The Dallas Mavericks might play their Christmas Day game against the Utah Jazz without their two best players. After Luka Doncic has been ruled out because of COVID-19 health and safety protocols, Kristaps Porzingis' status remains up in the air.

According to the latest report from the Dallas Morning News, Porzingis is questionable to play against the Jazz because of a right toe soreness. It's the same issue that kept him out of the final quarter against the Minnesota Timberwolves last Tuesday and the one that sidelined him for the Mavs' past two games.

However, there is a legitimate chance KP will be able to suit up for Dallas, especially since there were high hopes he would be able to play Thursday against the Milwaukee Bucks. He was a late scratch in the contest, but it does raise hopes of a possible return on Christmas.

The Mavs certainly need all the help they can get, especially as they face a relatively healthy Jazz team. Utah still has their best players in Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert healthy, so if there is any chance Dallas can get Kristaps Porzingis back with little to no risk at all, then it will be a massive boost to the team.

Dallas has already signed a number of replacement players as they continue to navigate the COVID-19 outbreak in the NBA. Hopefully, they'll get a star player to at least keep them competitive and improve their already slim chances of taking down the streaking Jazz squad.
