Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James and Dallas Mavericks youngster Luka Doncic had a special duel on Friday in the Lakers' road win against the Mavs.

LeBron finished with 39 points, 12 rebounds and 16 assists, while Doncic put up 31 points, 13 rebounds and 15 assists. The Lakers defeated the Mavs by a final score of 119-110 to improve to 4-1 on the season.

After the game, James had nothing but praise for Doncic, who is the new franchise player for the Mavs in the post-Dirk Nowitzki era:

“I don't really get into the one-on-one battle. Obviously he's a great young talent, I love his game, his ability to not only create shots for himself, but you guys know I love the fact that he can get great looks for his teammates,” James said, via ESPN.

“That's what I thrive on, that's what I've always believed in, and he just plays the game the right way.”

Doncic, 20, and James, 34, became the youngest and oldest players in NBA history, respectively, to record a 30-10-15 game, and James became the first player to have his stat line combined with four steals (since steals became an official stat in 1973-74).

James was Doncic's idol growing up, so it must feel great for the Mavs star to get a compliment from The King.

Doncic won the Rookie of the Year Award last season. He's taken his game to another level in his sophomore season and is on his way to making his first All-Star game.

Through the Mavs' first five games, Doncic is averaging 26.2 points, 9.6 rebounds and 8.4 assists.
