Luka Doncic is the face of the Dallas Mavericks and in just a few seasons, he has solidified himself as one of the best players in the entire NBA. A multidimensional talent who dominates on the offensive side of the court, Doncic enters his sixth season in the NBA looking to bring the Mavs back to the playoffs in order to contend for a championship.

However, Doncic's status to begin the 2023-24 season is very much up in the air at this point, especially since he's been dealing with a lingering calf issue throughout the summer. Luka was heavily limited in Dallas' preseason games and now, he is officially listed as questionable to play in the team's season opener on Wednesday night against Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs.

On Tuesday, Doncic spoke to reporters before practice and said while he is feeling better, he's still not sure about his status for the first game of the new season.

“I've been practicing for two days now and I feel pretty good,” Doncic stated, via Brad Towsend from Dallas Morning News. “We'll see how it feels tomorrow morning.”

Doncic did make it clear that he has not been limited in practice and that his calf injury is “better” than it has been.

The Mavs not having Luka is like the Los Angeles Lakers not having LeBron James or the Golden State Warriors not having Stephen Curry. Doncic is vital to this team's overall success and that has been very apparent through the years, as they posted a losing record without him on the floor last season. In fact, Dallas has gone 27-36 in games without Luka since he entered the league in 2018.

A real MVP candidate every single season, Doncic played in a total of 66 games last season, averaging 32.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 8.0 assists per game while shooting 49.6 percent from the floor. He ranked second in the league in scoring, trailing only Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid, who went on to win the league's MVP award.

At this point, it seems likely that Luka Doncic will be available for Wednesday's season opener against the Spurs as long as he does not suffer any setbacks in practice.
