The Dallas Mavericks have managed to squeeze out a 2-2 record in the absence of Luka Doncic. While the Slovenian star would have loved to play, he expressed his happiness to see Kristaps Porzingis and the rest of the Mavs step up.
Doncic is expected to return soon, but he made sure to give credit where credit is due after his teammates prevented the Mavs from taking a massive dip in the Western Conference standings.
“They did a great job without me,” he said, per Brad Townsend of The Dallas Morning News. “Like I always say, we have some great players on the team that people don’t talk a lot about. [The fans] just saw how they play.”
Speaking about Porzingis, Doncic is nothing but happy for him. Without Doncic, Porzingis performed well and carried a majority of the offensive load.

In the four games Doncic missed, plus the one where he suffered the injury and played just two minutes, Porzingis beefed up his averages to 22.4 points and 13.8 rebounds.
“He’s a great player,” Doncic said of KP. “He’s getting more and more comfortable. I’m happy for him. We’re going to get better and better.”
The Mavs' last four games included victories over the Milwaukee Bucks and the Philadelphia 76ers — both of which are considered as title contenders. It showed how good the team really is. They're not overly-dependent on Doncic as some perceived, with players such as Seth Curry, Jalen Brunson stepping up and showing that they have the capacity to be extremely productive out there as well.
