Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic is facing some bad news, as he has been dealing with a left ankle injury over the course of the season. As such, Doncic has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder due to lingering left ankle soreness. The news surrounding him comes at an unfortunate time for the Mavericks, as they have dropped seven of their last 10 games.

Apparently, Doncic aggravated his ankle injury during the Mavericks' loss against the Indiana Pacers on Friday, 106-93. Doncic's absence will be a huge hit for the struggling Mavericks, as he has been averaging 25.6 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 8.5 assists per game throughout the season—very evidently fulfilling his role as the team's first option on offense.

Regarding the developments surrounding Doncic and his injury, Callie Caplan of The Dallas Morning News reports:

Coach Jason Kidd said Doncic didn’t participate in the Mavericks’ practice Saturday at the Thunder’s Paycom Center. During the portion open to the media, Doncic watched reserves scrimmage while propping his left foot up on a courtside seat, two ice bags wrapped around his ankle.

Doncic obviously was not allowed to join his teammates during practice, and the Mavericks coaching staff can't be blamed for making him sit despite the dire times for the organization. Any more possible instances of Doncic reaggravating his injury are bound to make a sticky situation for the team an even stickier one. Right now, the best possible course of action for the Mavericks is what they're currently doing: Sit and wait, monitor Doncic, and protect their young superstar's health.

Regardless, Luka Doncic's absence will be an extremely tough deal for the Mavericks leading up to their battle with the Thunder.
