It didn't take Dallas Mavericks rising star Luka Doncic too long to get his groove back following a sub-par shooting effort against the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday. The Mavs youngster had another tremendous outing on Friday, as Doncic led his team to a 120-113 victory against the Phoenix Suns.

Doncic torched the Suns a day after Thanksgiving, as the 20-year-old tied his career-high of 42 points on 12-of-14 from the field and 15-of-18 from the charity stripe. He also added three 3-pointers, nine rebounds, 11 assists, and a steal, as the reigning Rookie of the Year once again flirted with another triple-double.

Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle had nothing but great things to say about his prized guard/forward, sending praises towards Doncic following yet another astounding performance.

“He’s a great player,” Carlisle said, via Dwain Price of Mavs.com. “Great players have a short memory for tough games and they move forward and they’re always thinking ahead.

“They’re always thinking about the next challenge, and he was spectacular tonight from start to finish. He hit the floor hard twice, which everybody saw, but he’s an extremely tough hard-nosed guy who seemingly always bounces back up and keeps playing. He’s an amazing player.”

For the record, Doncic still logged 22 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and three steals in a loss against the Clippers. Such is the high level of play the 6-foot-7 forward has been producing at that this type of stat line is already considered as a bad game in his high standards. Doncic did go just 4-of-14 from the field, and committed seven turnovers in the blowouot defeat, but credit undoubtedly needs to be given to L.A.'s stellar defense.

Right now, Doncic's amazing play has placed the sophomore into the early season race for this year's Most Valuable Player trophy.
