The Dallas Mavericks are expected to focus on mid-tier free agents instead of pursuing big names when the free-agency period begins on June 30, Zach Lowe of ESPN reported.

The Mavs have long been linked with Kemba Walker, who is expected to leave the Charlotte Hornets this summer. Walker has been viewed as their primary target in free agency because they think that the All-Star guard would be a good fit on their relatively young roster.

However, the Mavs are now expected to focus on other targets, especially after recent reports point to Walker likely signing with the Boston Celtics. The Celtics is expected to be aggressive in trying to ink a deal with Walker to replace Kyrie Irving, who is set to sign elsewhere in the coming days.

Mavs president of basketball operations and general manager Donnie Nelson told Dwain Price of Mavs.com that they will look to add some firepower in the hopes of ending their playoff drought. Team owner Mark Cuban also added that he is excited to work in the upcoming free-agency period.

“This is when I get to do my job, right,” Cuban said. “So I’m excited to do it, and now is where I go to work.”

The Mavericks are expected to build their team around 2019 NBA Rookie of the Year Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis. Porzingis will actually become a free agent this summer, but the Mavs are not losing any sleep, as the Latvian superstar is expected to sign a long-term deal with the team.
