The Dallas Mavericks are still looking for that second star to pair up with Luka Doncic, and according to a report, they could consider Brooklyn Nets guard Ben Simmons.

Brooklyn has been rumored to be shopping Simmons in an attempt to address their shooting woes. With that said, a Western Conference executive told Sean Deveney of Heavy Sports that the Mavs are a “team to watch” in a potential trade for the former no. 1 overall pick.

“Simmons would be an interesting fit next to Luka (Doncic) if the Nets were willing to take back (Tim) Hardaway and (Davis) Bertans. I am not sure how much higher the Mavs could go in terms of an offer but that would definitely be interesting for Luka,” the anonymous exec said.

Adding Ben Simmons is definitely an intriguing prospect for the Mavs. A strong on-ball defender who can attack the rim and make elite passes like Simmons could definitely give the Dallas offense and defense more punch. Considering that Doncic isn't considered an elite defender, having Simmons will definitely make things easier for him.

Moreover, a backcourt duo of a 6-foot-10 Simmons along with a 6-foot-7 Luka is a nightmare matchup for any team.

Of course the big issue for the Mavs is shooting. Doncic is making just 26.2 percent of his shots from deep this 2022-23 season, and it could be disastrous if he's alongside a guy who doesn't shoot from beyond the arc.

It remains to be seen if the Mavs really have any interest in Simmons, though if true, the team definitely needs to consider everything before making a decision.
