While the Dallas Mavericks continue to be linked to Memphis Grizzlies small forward Andre Iguodala, the Mavs are not actively pursuing a trade for the former Finals MVP, according to Marc Stein of The New York Times.
The Grizzlies won’t buy out Iguodala, who is owed $17.2 million this season, the final year of his contract. The Grizzlies remain confident they will be able to fetch some type of return for Iguodala, who has been training on his own while away from Memphis:
Last season for the Golden State Warriors, Iguodala averaged 5.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists while shooting 50.0 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from beyond the arc and 58.2 percent from the free-throw line. The 35-year-old swingman put up 9.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game in the 2019 playoffs.
The Mavs are 18-9 on the season. They are in fifth place in the Western Conference standings.
It's going to be interesting to see where Iguodala lands. The Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers and Houston Rockets would love to acquire him, but giving up a first-round pick doesn't seem to be in the cards for those three teams.
The Mavs have a good enough roster to make the playoffs and possibly win a playoff series. Superstar Luka Doncic and All-Star Kristaps Porzingis are a lethal dynamic duo which will get more comfortable with one another once Doncic returns to the Mavs' lineup. The reigning Rookie of the Year is currently out with an ankle injury.
