The Mavs are reportedly targeting shooting, athleticism and veterans in free agency this summer, according to Marc Stein of the New York Times.

The Mavs are building their franchise around Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis in the post-Dirk Nowitzki era.

Shooters, athleticism and veterans are said to be Dallas’ priorities to supply the budding star tandem of Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis with some been-there wisdom.

The Mavs will have cap space to sign a max contract player this summer, but they haven't been heavily linked to anyone yet.

Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving, Kemba Walker, Jimmy Butler and Tobias Harris all become free agents on July 1.

Dallas went 33-49 this season. Doncic showed he's ready to take the mantle from Nowitzki. The rookie averaged 21.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game this season while shooting 42.7 percent from the field, 32.7 percent from beyond the arc and 71.3 percent from the free-throw line. Doncic recorded 24 double-doubles and eight triple-doubles.

The Mavs can't wait to deploy Porzingis next season alongside Doncic. KP has fully recovered from the ACL tear he suffered in 2017-18 with the New York Knicks. Once the free agent market is set in July, it will be interesting to see who the Mavs go after.
