The dennis smith jr. era has begun for the Dallas Mavericks.
The rookie guard kicked off his NBA career on a fancy note, catching a lob pass from teammate Wesley Matthews for an alley-oop slam in the first quarter of Wednesday’s showdown with the Atlanta Hawks. It was Mavs’ first points of the season, and more noteworthy, Smith’s first basket of his very young NBA career.

Apart from showing once again that he’s got one of the best hops among all rookies, and arguably in the league today, Dennis Smith Jr. also displayed on that play good recognition skills and ability to move well off the ball. These are qualities the Mavs would certainly like the former NC State Wolfpack standout to do more moving forward.
Smith is considered a steal in the 2017 Draft, where Dallas took him off the board as the ninth overall pick. It’s early in the season, but Smith is already electrifying a Dallas team in need of a spark after missing the playoffs last season.
