The 2018-19 season has not gone as planned for the Dallas Mavericks. With the team disappointing on the court, Mavs fans have to reach for anything they can to be happy about.

One of the lone bright spots for Dallas this season has been Dirk Nowitzki. The 40-year-old Mavericks legend has not yet announced his retirement, but it has become clear that the power forward is reaching the end of the line.

The veteran has just been having fun this season, and it shows. Most recently, he spent Monday's off day with another star in Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and 2018 NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes.

Patrick Mahomes grew up in Tyler, Texas and decided to hang out with his local team. The NFL MVP is a noted basketball fan, as he made headlines in February for a nifty basketball highlight from a pick-up game. The Kansas City Chiefs subsequently banned Mahomes from playing basketball going forward to preserve his health.

But on Monday, he was back on a basketball court ā€” this time, with a football in his hand.

Dirk Nowitzki tried (and failed) to catch a pass from Patrick Mahomes with one hand. He was jokingly attempting to replicate the legendary catch made by Odell Beckham Jr. in 2015.

This season, Nowitzki has played in only 35 games. The 14-time All-Star has averaged just 5.7 points andĀ 2.3 rebounds while playing 13.1 minutes per contest. He is set to hit free agency this offseason if he does not retire.

At 27-39, the Mavs hold the second-worst record in the Western Conference.
