The Olympics give basketball fans a chance every four years to learn about the other great players across the world not in the NBA.

One of those names Americans have undoubtedly become more familiar with is Serbia‘s Milos Teodosic, who made four three-pointers and scored 18 points in the United States‘ 94-91 nail-biting win over Serbia in group play of these Olympics.

Teodosic could have been a more familiar name for NBA fans if he had signed with the Memphis Grizzlies back in 2013, which almost happened according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

The Memphis Grizzlies tried to sign star European point guard Milos Teodosic in the summer of 2013, but the architect of Serbia's near-upset of Team USA at the Rio Games rebuffed that chance to come to the NBA, according to league sources.

Sources confirmed to ESPN that the Grizzlies offered Teodosic a two-year deal in the $5 million range in an attempt to lure him to the NBA.

Instead of taking the deal, Teodosic decided to remain in Europe, signing a contract with CSKA Moscow which has one more year remaining. The deal doesn't have any NBA outs so he couldn't come to the NBA until 2017 at the earliest.

“As good a player, as good a guard, as there is in Europe,” Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski said.

“I love him,” he added.

Teodosic is a wizard with the ball and a great shooter, but his defense is so bad it's cost Serbia some wins already in these Olympics. There's no denying he's one of the best players in Europe and it'd be interesting to see how he'd do in the NBA.
