The MLB offseason was very tumultuous, with a lockout that lasted 99 days. The MLB owners locked the players out, both figuratively and literally. In an attempt to get the players to negotiate to their liking, the owners enacted the lockout on December 2nd. It lasted until March 12 when both sides finally reached an agreement.

The start of the regular season was pushed back a bit because of it. According to MLB writer Stephen A. Nesbitt, on Opening Day, players were greeted with a gift and a note from MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred. Manfred hilariously gifted the players with a set of Bose headphones that he left at their locker.

“Please accept this gift as a small gesture of my appreciation for the hard work that comes with being a Major Leaguer and your respect for our incredible fans. Thank you for everything you do in a game that has such a rich history and deep meaning to our fans in the U.S. and around the world. Wishing you the best of luck for a successful season.”

It was a very contentious lockout, with both sides taking shots at one another. So, it's a little far-fetched that some headphones and a nice note will make things all better.

Ultimately, it all comes down to money. The owners and the players will never put it so plainly, but that's essentially what it is. The players want a larger slice of the pie. The owners claim massive losses during the pandemic, were unwilling to concede to players demands.
