Rob Manfred and Major League Baseball have set a final deadline for a chance at a full 162 game season. According to MLB insider Bob Nightengale, the deadline is set for Tuesday night. MLB initially set a deadline last week but ultimately opted to cancel the first two series of the season after no deal was met between the MLB and MLBPA.
If a deal is met by Tuesday night then the league has agreed to not only have a full season, but to also provide players with full pay as well. This would obviously be the best case scenario for the MLBPA but it is unclear if the MLB’s recent rule changes will be enough for the two sides to agree on a deal.
If no deal is reached by this new deadline than another week of games will be cancelled and players will miss out on even more pay. MLB is clearly attempting to push the narrative in their favor and place the pressure on the MLBPA.
The lockout has been embarrassing for the league without question. But they could salvage a good portion of the fanbase by saving the entirety of the regular season. It would be nothing short of disastrous if another week of games was cancelled and the season was shortened even further. It appears as if this new Tuesday night deadline could be the deciding factor for how well the league fares this season.
As baseball fans we hope the two sides can agree on a deal and start playing some games!
