Major League Baseball is on a brief pause as the league descends on Atlanta for the All-Star Game on Tuesday night. While fans are locked in on the Midsummer Classic just a day after Cal Raleigh took home the trophy in the Home Run Derby, everyone now has an opportunity to reflect on everything that has taken place during a busy first half of the season.

There are plenty of storylines on the field to follow, but maybe the biggest thing that happened came in the front office rooms. The Boston Red Sox stunningly traded star infielder Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants after the two sides disagreed on what position he should be playing on game day.

While Devers trade seemed to be bubbling beneath the surface, nobody expected it to happen as quickly and suddenly as it did. At the All-Star Game, Devers' former teammate Chris Sale, now with the Atlanta Braves shared that he was stunned when the news of the trade dropped, via the Section 10 Podcast.

“I was very shocked, to say the least,” Sale said. “I love Raffy, he was always a great teammate when I was with him in Boston. You see someone sign a contract like that, you think he'll be there his whole career.  But this is baseball, this is business. Things change. That's just part of the business side of baseball.”

Many baseball fans around the world shared the same shocked reaction as Sale and could not believe that Devers was joining the already-stacked NL West. Heading into the All-Star break, the Giants are battling for position in the NL Wild Card race, so they will need the best version of Devers coming down the stretch of the season.

Meanwhile, Sale and the Braves have a lot of work to do to get to where they want to be this year. Atlanta is just 42-53 on the season and is facing down some very tough decisions of its own at the trade deadline, so perhaps it will be the next team to pull off a stunning trade this season.
