The Boston Red Sox have had quite the interesting season thus far. At one point, they looked lost. Boston couldn't hit, couldn't pitch and was behind the lowly Baltimore Orioles in last place of the American League East. Things have certainly turned around for the Red Sox over the last few weeks.

However, Boston might have hit a slight setback as Kike Hernandez was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.

The Red Sox utility man is dealing with a right hip flexor strain. He certainly has not been hitting that well this season. His batting average stands at a paltry .209. However, he has still found ways to be productive for Boston's offense. He has four home runs, 27 runs scored and 24 RBI.

The Red Sox have won six straight games entering Wednesday and climbed out from the ceiling in the AL East. Boston is 29-27 and in fourth place in the division.

Much of that turnaround has been unexpectedly from their pitching. Red Sox starting pitcher Nick Pivetta has been on fire lately, winning five straight starts. He's tossed 35 innings and allowed a total of five runs during that stretch. Michael Wacha has also been a surprisingly solid starter for Boston, posting a 1.99 ERA over 49 2/3 innings.

Also, J.D. Martinez is quietly hitting an absurd .359 this season. His power has not been there with only four home runs, but likely that will come as the summer months approach.

Hernandez being placed on the IL will likely open up more playing time for Franchy Cordero.
