Everyone in the MLB World was stunned when Carlos Correa signed with the Minnesota Twins this offseason. It seemed as if it was a foregone conclusion that Correa would head to a big market such as New York or Philadelphia, or possibly even return to Houston. People are equally as confident that Correa's stay in Minnesota will not be long. The shortstop has an opt-out clause at the end of the year and most people in the baseball realm expect him to enter free agency and test the market in a non-lockout offseason.
But Carlos Correa's recent message will provide Twins fans with hope. He made the following statement in an interview with MLB insider Ken Rosenthal. Correa is referring to a conversation he had with the Twins front office.
“I told ‘em, ’Hey guys, I know I have the opt-outs in the contract. But I really like it here. I love the people here. I love the way I’m treated here. … I would love to have a long-term relationship here if that’s what you guys would like.”
Wow! That is huge news for Minnesota. If the team could lock up a player with Correa's skillset the Twins could be contenders for years to come. Pairing Carlos Correa and Byron Buxton together for the long term could lead to a lethal Twins lineup.
The shortstop has struggled so far during the 2022 campaign. But he has a track record which suggests he will break out of the funk. One would imagine that Minnesota would be interested in extending his contract and keeping Carlos Correa in the Twin Cities for as long as possible.
