Bryson Stott just became an instant cult hero for Philadelphia Phillies. His walk-off home run lifted the Phillies over the Los Angeles Angels to help them improve to 3-0 after firing Joe Girardi.

The 24-year-old Stott, one of the Phillies' top prospects, hasn't been super productive in the big leagues so far. He came into today with a .439 OPS and 13 hits in 27 games. Although the infielder hasn't been super good, he also hasn't gotten the reps that young players need to get going.

Fortunately, interim manager Rob Thomson knows young guys need to build up experience. Stott got his chance to step up and took it. He became one of nine Phillies ever to hit a walk-off homer in their first or second time going yard, joining Hall of Famers Mike Schmidt and Nap Lajoie.

Stott said that he was speechless after his big hit in front of the Phillies home crowd, per Corey Seidman of NBC Sports.

“I knew I hit it good,” Stott said. “I hit two off the end of the bat to right and I hit that one off the barrel. I knew I got it good enough to hopefully let Didi (Gregorius) score and I just saw them keep going back and back.

“Any walk-off, especially to do it at the highest level … (Kyle) Schwarber told me he's never seen me speechless. I didn't really know what was going on once it happened and I don't think I said many words.”

Bryce Harper was so confident that he predicted that Stott would make the big play to win the game for the Phillies. He will have plenty more chances to do so.
