It is Ryan Zimmerman weekend at Nationals Park, as the Washington Nationals are set to retire his No. 11 on Saturday. The event was announced before the season and is finally taking place. It is quite the honor for Zimmerman, who spent all 16 of his big league seasons in D.C. He was a 2-time All-Star who became the first real face of the franchise for the Washington Nationals after formerly being known as the Montreal Expos.

Zimmerman is giving back to the Nationals fan base on Saturday as well. It was recently revealed that he will be buying every fan their first beer before and after the game and number retiring ceremony, per Washington Post columnist Barry Svrluga.

Just received word that Ryan Zimmerman is buying anyone and everyone their first beer @thesaltline before or after the ceremony and game today. Sold-out ballpark. Restaurant across the street. That’s … a lot of beers.

There is no question that Ryan Zimmerman is going to rack up quite the tab on Saturday. But his kind gesture displays how much the Nations fans mean to him.

Nationals manager Davey Martinez commented on what Zimmerman means to the team and city of Washington D.C, per SB Nation.

“Let’s just say he means a lot to this organization. But he means a lot to D.C. as well. I mean, this guy has been the face of the franchise for a very, very long time. It’s an honor to be a part of his celebration of Saturday.”

Nationals Park is going to be the place to be on Saturday without question.
