This is the format for the 2022 NBA All-Star Game:
The All-Star Game will be played in a different format than a standard NBA game. The teams will compete in each of the first three quarters of the game, with each quarter lasting 12 minutes. The score will be reset to 0-0 at the start of each quarter. At the start of the fourth quarter, the game clock will be turned off, and the total scores of each team through the first three quarters will be tallied.
The fourth quarter will be played until a target score is reached. The target score will be determined by adding 24 points (a tribute to the late Kobe Bryant) to the leading team's current points total. The two teams will then play until one reaches the target score.
So, for example, if the game is 100-98 at the end of the third quarter, the target score would then be 124. The teams would play until one side reached 124 points, at which point that team would win the game.
While the Slam Dunk Contest may not have had the fireworks fans were hoping for, the All-Star Game should be filled with entertaining moments and a rare opportunity to see the game's best players all on one court.
