In one season in Norman, Trae Young was able to show his boundless range and terrific playmaking. The former Oklahoma Sooners guard, however, thinks he needs to reinforce his on-court performance with worded confidence in order to convert any naysayers left into believers.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, including Scott Gleeson of USA TODAY Sports, Young expressed his immense grade for himself ahead of the upcoming 2018 NBA Draft this June

“I think I’m the best overall player in the NBA draft,” Young, the projected No. 8 pick in USA TODAY Sports’ latest mock draft, told reporters. “My main focus isn’t to be necessarily the best player in the draft, it’s to be the best player in the NBA. That’s what I’m focusing on each and every day.”

Young was one of the most electric players to ever compete in the NCAA. Last season, he led the nation in both points (27.4) and assists (8.7) per game. He also sank 3.7 long distance shots per game on a 36.0 percent clip. With Young leading the team, the Sooners had one of the hottest first halves of the season in the NCAA, even reaching as high as No. 4 in the AP Top 25 Poll but struggled to hold it together as Oklahoma barely made it to the Big Dance, where they were bounced out of the first round.

Often compared with Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, Young also appeared to put a focus on bulking up his physique, as noted by Nick Friedell of ESPN.

The 2018 NBA Draft is set to be held on June 21 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
