Memphis Tigers freshman center James Wiseman is one of the names being considered for the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. A recent poll conducted by Jeff Goodman of Stadium resulted in 20 out of 35 NBA executives voting for Wiseman as the likely top pick in the upcoming NBA Draft

The 19-year-old 7-footer reacted to the news during a recent interview:

“That's good, that's a blessing,” said Wiseman. “But when I go in the league I'm trying to make a name for myself. I really don't care about the number as far as the league. I can go one, two, or three. I'm just ready to get out there and prove myself, become a better player and just make a name for myself in the league.”

That's quite a number.

To say 57% of executives (scouts/GMs/assistant GMs) considered Wiseman as the top selection in this NBA Draft is really something, considering that the freshman only played three full games before the NCAA cut his college stint short after denouncing him for receiving improper financial benefits.

While Georgia standout Anthony Edwards and overseas wonder LaMelo Ball also have small sample sizes — none of them have a smaller one than Wiseman.

Ten of the 35 executives picked Edwards, four opted for Ball, and the lone other picked Dayton standout Obi Toppin.

Asked about the pressure that comes with being the top overall NBA Draft pick, Wiseman shrugged it off nonchalantly:

“I really don't care about the No. 1 spot, to be honest,” said Wiseman. “I just wanna get better and just be a student of the game. I feel like NBA vets can teach you a lot about the game and that type of environment where it can make my game develop tremendously.”

Most scouts would concur they have yet to see enough of Wiseman to make him a sureshot No. 1, but he surely has shown the right attitude coming into this time of the year.

The Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Minnesota Timberwolves share an equal 14% chance of getting the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft, while others like the Atlanta Hawks and Detroit Pistons have a smaller but still viable chance to net the top selection.
