NBA Basketball Insider's managing editor Alex Kennedy tweeted early Monday morning that an NBA free agent disclosed his top four franchise destinations when considering “all things equal.”  The list has already turned a couple heads around the league, and it's led to more rumors.

Both the Toronto Raptors and the New York Knicks made surprising appearances as some of the most wanted destinations for this unknown free-agent, raising some questions as to who this anonymous free agent could be. Taking all of the rumblings around the league into account points to it being Raptors free-agent DeMar DeRozan, who enters the free agent period after opting out of his contract to become an unrestricted free agent.

DeRozan has repeatedly discussed his affinity with the Toronto Raptors, where he has played his entire six-year career, yet the Spurs provide a great fit for the all-star shooting guard, who averaged 23.5 points per game over the 2015-16 season. While little chatter has been reported between DeRozan and the Spurs, Derozan could potentially fill the shooting guard void left by an aging Manu Ginobli and catapult the Western Conference powerhouse to another championship trophy.

Here's the tweet:

Other than DeRozan, Kennedy's tweet seems to baffle reporters and NBA insiders alike as to who this anonymous free agent could be. While the Spurs, Raptors, and Cavs all provide arguably championship caliber teams, the Knicks and their new roster finally provides excitement for the New York fanbase.

Regardless of who this player in question is, this list provides insight into the mindset behind NBA free agents this offseason and desirable locations from their standpoint. While an increasing number of mediocre to above average free agents gain ridiculous max-contracts from desperate teams around the league, franchises must rely on the popularity of their current players and basketball smarts in order to woo the best guys on the open market. From Kennedy's tweet, fans and analysts see who's winning free agency in the minds of the players right now.
