Aron Baynes is not done just yet. After suffering a career-threatening back injury last year, the 35-year-old is now on a comeback trail in a bid to return to the NBA.
Brian Windhorst of ESPN reports that Baynes has now recovered from his injury and is now set to work out for a handful of teams:
Aron Baynes, who suffered a spinal cord injury after a freak fall while playing for the Australian national team in the Tokyo Olympics last summer, has resumed his career and will be working out for NBA teams Friday in Las Vegas.
This is definitely a welcome development for Aron Baynes, who was previously in danger of seeing his career come to an end after a devastating injury. So much so, that the Australian national had to spend no less than two months in the hospital right after his injury as he learned to walk again.
Baynes did not actually suffer his injury while on the basketball court. The 6-foot-10 center slipped in the bathroom during a game, and he was knocked unconscious. He could barely feel his limbs when he regained consciousness, and he was unable to walk. Baynes had to be rushed to the hospital, where it was later determined that he suffered internal bleeding.
Baynes, a one-time NBA champ, is a journeyman in the league. He's played for no less than five teams in nine years in the NBA. He is now hoping to get his career back on track, and at this point, you can't help but root for this man.
