Charles Barkley is well-known for saying outlandish things on TNT's NBA pre-game show and he did just that on Thursday night. Amid all of the issues that the NBA is experiencing with COVID-19 this season, Barkley believes that players should jump the line for vaccines, which led to him being roasted on social media.
Of course, Barkley's comments didn't go without criticism from media and the fans alike as they questioned his logic behind his opinion. Regardless of what Barkley thinks is the best idea for players in receiving vaccines, Adam Silver already shut down his thinking even before he said his controversial comments.
Last month, Silver spoke about the prospects of players, coaches, and other staff members receiving vaccines for COVID-19 during the season. During his conversation about the topic, Silver uttered that in no way, shape, or form will the league skip the line to receive vaccines.
At the same time, Silver and the NBA sent memos to teams that advised them to not pursue getting the vaccine before the league finds an avenue to receive them. If a team were to get the vaccines before the NBA gets them as a whole, then they could face severe punishment.
With the vaccines still in early release, most people believe that higher-risk people and older people should be first in line to receive the COVID-19 vaccines. On the other hand—to the dismay of fans—Barkley questionably believes that players deserve to get the vaccines before anyone else in the country because of their financial status.
