Free agent guard Shelvin Mack has signed with Olimpia Milano of the Euroleague, the club announced on Thursday.

“We are happy to welcome Shelvin Mack, who chose Milan to start his European career,” general manager Christos Stavropoulos said in a statement. “We wanted to bring him aboard because of his leadership skills, his defense and because he’s a proven winner. Those traits will help the team to find its identity and to grow as a group.”

Mack, an eight-year veteran, signed a one-year deal with the Memphis Grizzlies last offseason. He was dealt to the Atlanta Hawks at the trade deadline in exchange for Tyler Dorsey, and later picked up off waivers by the Charlotte Hornets. Mack appeared in just four games with Charlotte over the last two months of the season, then was left unsigned after the first several waves of free agency broke earlier this month.

“I’m looking forward to the unbelievable opportunity that I have with Olimpia Milan. I’m really excited for this new chater of my career, while competing at this high level,” he said.

Mack has career averages of 6.6 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in 18.4 minutes per game. He's played for seven teams in his career, but is best known for multi-season stints with the Atlanta Hawks and Utah Jazz, playing significant reserve roles in the postseason for both.

A streaky shooter at best and average overall athlete, Mack is just a season removed from being the Orlando Magic's top backup floor general. Though hardly an overall impact player or even reliable shooter, the assumption was that his experience running NBA offenses and positional size made him a surefire bet to sign as a team's third point guard.

Mack could still get that opportunity down the line. Until further notice, though, he'll be starring in Italy.
