NBA legend Isiah Thomas has what many will believe to be an unpopular opinion about the best player to ever play the game of basketball.

During a segment on FS1 in which a group of four panelists that included Thomas discussed whether Lebron James or Michael Jordan was the best all-time player, Thomas zagged when others zigged, choosing neither of the two options.

Instead, Thomas gave the nod the NBA's all-time leading scorer.

“To me, the greatest player to ever play the game that I've seen is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar,” Thomas said. “Arguably the best basketball career ever. From grade school to high school to college to the NBA, there has never been a more dominant player that I've ever seen.”

Thomas isn't alone in this opinion. Among many knowledgeable basketball minds, neither James nor Jordan's names come up when discussing what player was the best-ever in the NBA. At times, it's Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Bill Russell, or others.

The case is strong for Abdul-Jabbar. He won multiple championships with different teams, has scored more points than any other NBA player ever, and in his era was the most dominant player, a feat that hasn't been matched by many players since him.

The discussion is always interesting to have. And even when Thomas was asked to choose between only James and Jordan, he could't really do it.
