The NBA has notified teams that it won’t allow players to wear the “ninja-style headbands” next season, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

NBA spokesman Mike Bass told ESPN the headwear hasn’t been through the league approval process.

Jimmy Butler, Jrue Holiday, Myles Turner, Mike Scott and Montrezl Harrell were among the players to wear the headbands last season. It looks like players will have to wait for at least one season to wear the ninja-style headbands again.

Kurt Helin of NBC Sports has an interesting and valid point as to why the NBA is getting rid of the headbands. He thinks it is because Nike didn’t officially make and market them yet.

The “safety” comment doesn’t really make any sense. How is a headband dangerous on an NBA court? Regardless, we won’t be seeing the headbands next season until the NBA approves them. Players will just have to go back to wearing the traditional headbands which have been around for years.

The NBA season is still going to be entertaining to watch next season. The battle for Los Angeles between the Lakers and Clippers is going to be very intriguing. Plus, we really don’t know who is going to win it all next season, the first time NBA fans can say that in years.
