Anthony Davis is one of the best players in the NBA and is widely viewed as the favorite to win the MVP award this season. While Davis has become one of the best players in the league, the New Orleans Pelicans have been unable to put together a team around him that helps him compete for an NBA championship.

According to Davis in an interview shared by ESPN, Davis wants to be in a position where he can compete for a championship each and every season.

“When you look at LeBron, every year you know he's going to be great and his team is going to have a chance to win the title. From here on out, I want to be in that conversation every year. Not every other year. Not every few years. Every year. If that's going to happen, we're going to have to win, and I'm going to have to be the most dominant player.”

New Orleans was hoping that Davis and DeMarcus Cousins would be the players that took them to title contention. Unfortunately, Cousins decided to leave town this offseason to sign a one-year, discounted contract with the Golden State Warriors.

Davis put together a huge 2017-18 season with the Pelicans, averaging 28.1 points per game to go along with 11.1 rebounds and 2.6 blocks. He also chipped in 2.3 assists per game. In addition to those numbers, Davis shot 53.4 percent from the field overall and knocked down 34 percent of his 3-point attempts.

At 25 years old, Davis already has the dominant player thing down. New Orleans will simply need to continue adding more talent around him, although they feel very good about their current roster.

Rumors have been flying for a few years now that Davis could consider leaving the Pelicans. He is still under contract through the 2020-21 season, but if he demands a trade, he could force his way out of New Orleans.

All of that being said, it sounds like Davis has his sights set on taking the Pelicans to the point where they can compete in the West every year.
