New Orleans Pelicans All-Star Anthony Davis and his camp reportedly believe that Kyrie Irving might not re-sign with the Boston Celtics in the summer, according to Adrian Wojnarowski and Zach Lowe of ESPN.

Kyrie Irving could become an unrestricted free agent once the season ends if he declines his 2019-20 player option with the Celtics, something the superstar point guard is expected to do. Irving told fans at the TD Garden before the 2018-19 season started that he is planning on re-signing with Boston.

However, Anthony Davis and his confidants aren't sure if Irving is in fact going to stay in Beantown and honor his verbal commitment.

The stance of Davis and his camp toward Boston is linked to their view of Kyrie Irving’s future, sources said. Davis and his camp no longer believe that Irving is a sure bet to re-sign with the Celtics this summer, and that’s the primary reason they insist on clumping Boston with a similar message to the 28 other teams: Buyer beware on a trade for Davis.

The Celtics can't trade for Anthony Davis this season while Kyrie Irving is on the roster because of the “Rose Rule.” Once Irving opts out of his 2019-20 player option in the offseason, Boston can then acquire Davis and have Kyrie and AD on the roster together.

It is widely believed, though, that Davis wants to play for the Los Angeles Lakers and run with LeBron James. Davis and James share the same agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports. AD can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2020. If Davis and his camp tell the Celtics AD is not interested in signing a long-term extension with Boston, it will make Danny Ainge and the rest of the brass in Boston hesitant to trade for The Brow.
