After starting 40 out of 75 games for the Denver Nuggets during the 2016-17 NBA season, Jameer Nelson was surprisingly waived. With Jamal Murray winning the starting point guard position over Emmanuel Mudiay, the Nuggets wanted to move in a different direction by signing Richard Jefferson.

With the 35-year-old clearing waivers, four teams have expressed interest according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN:

While most players at this stage of his career would want to play for a championship contender, Nelson has another priority according to Wojnarowski:

While Chris Paul is out with a knee injury, it appears the Houston Rockets are likely out of the running considering the circumstances. With the Brooklyn Nets expected to miss Jeremy Lin with a season-ending injury and New Orleans Pelicans losing Rajon Rondo for a couple of weeks due to a sports hernia, they may have the best chances to sign him.

Nelson, who is a one-time All-Star, has been able to remain relatively productive at 35 years old. In his last season with the Nuggets, he averaged 9.2 points and 5.1 assists in 27.3 minutes per game.
