The New York Knicks are reportedly exploring the possibility of trading down in the NBA draft, with the Atlanta Hawks as their potential partner. However, Ian Begley of SNY Sports is reporting that this scenario is not in both teams' best interest at the moment.

Any potential trade between the Knicks and the Hawks involving their first-round picks is not currently under “serious consideration” by either side, a league source told SNY.

In the rumored trade, the Knicks will be sending the third overall pick to the Hawks for their eighth and tenth picks. A deal that makes no sense for New York, considering the fact that the consensus around the league is that this draft is top-3 heavy. Unless of course, if they are planning to add extra assets in a potentially bigger trade.

At the moment, the consensus around the league is that the Knicks will be selecting Duke's RJ Barrett. But they have also explored the possibility of using the third overall pick on guys like Cam Reddish or Jarrett Culver.

All these speculations about the Knicks trading down in the draft and looking at other prospects are most likely nothing but just due diligence. Of course, they need to look at all their options this summer in order to make the best decisions necessary for the franchise. This is one of the biggest offseasons in the team's history, so James Dolan, Steve Mills, and Scott Perry will do everything in their power for this to execute their plans successfully.
