Detroit Pistons star Jerami Grant might be injured right now, but that hasn't stopped the phones from ringing on his availability ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline. While around a dozen teams are interested, the Chicago Bulls and Memphis Grizzlies appear to be two organizations that won't pursue the forward.

Via Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report:

Memphis has been a popular speculative trade partner for Detroit. Grant's fit alongside Ja Morant, Dillon Brooks, Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr. is obvious, but the Grizzlies are not expected to make a serious run at him at this time.

Memphis has emerged as a surprising contender in the Western Conference largely because of a patient team-building strategy. “Pushing their chips in to get Grant would be the exact opposite of their moves so far under [general manager] Zach [Kleiman],” another assistant general manager said.

As for the Bulls, they have several internal connections to Grant, from GM Marc Eversley, who spent time with Grant in Philadelphia, while Billy Donovan coached him in Oklahoma City. But, Chicago would have to include injured forward Patrick Williams and draft picks in a package, which they don't seem too keen on at this moment in time, despite Grant's seamless fit with the current first unit on the Bulls:

For Chicago to move Williams, Karnisovas would need absolute confidence Grant is the final ingredient for a championship run. The front office has already mortgaged the majority of its future draft capital, and sending out Williams, Derrick Jones Jr. and the Blazers' protected 2022 first-rounder would lock the Bulls into an inflexible future. At this juncture, Chicago appears uncomfortable with that.

Both the Grizzlies and Bulls are emerging as dark horses in the West and East. While getting a player of Grant's caliber would be phenomenal, it's unlikely to become a reality for either team. Right now, the Wizards are expected to be the frontrunner to land him.
