It was just three years ago when the Atlanta Hawks set a franchise record for the most wins in a season when they finished with a 60-22 slate in the 2014-15 campaign. Fast forward to today, the Hawks found themselves in the middle of a rebuild and without most of the key players that led to that record-setting year.
Atlanta fans sure have the feeling that it's going to be a rough season ahead of them, but just to twist the knife a little bit more, ESPN's Kevin Pelton published an article in which he is projecting the Hawks to finish the 2017-18 season with the worst record in the league.
RPM has long been low on the Hawks' talent, and that certainly hasn't changed with the departure of Millsap. Remarkably, Atlanta has just two players projected to be better than league average by RPM: likely starting big men Dewayne Dedmon and Ersan Ilyasova.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see how big of a plunge the Hawks are going to see next season when their current depth chart has Dedmon, Ilyasova, and Taurean Prince in the starting unit.
Over the past few seasons, the Hawks have rid themselves of All-Stars Al Horford, Kyle Korver, Jeff Teague, and most recently, Paul Millsap in an obvious effort to get the team younger and thus position them for a better future at the expense, of course, of the present. On the bright side, the Hawks have amassed a good number of future draft picks.
