The Boston Celtics started the offseason as one of the underdogs to obtain Kevin Durant‘s services after his deep playoff run in 2016.

Prior to his signing with the Golden State Warriors, it was believed around NBA circles that the lanky All-Star forward would remain with the Oklahoma City Thunder in order to crack another go at reaching the NBA Finals.

As it turns out, the Celtics would have been a very captivating option for Durant had the Warriors won it all following his series.

Boston made some solid pitches and revealed the blueprint on how the team managed to be the only one in the NBA to beat the Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers during the last regular season made it even more enticing.

The biggest attraction though, was the notion of him avoiding joining a dynasty and the pressure that came with it all, according to ESPN The Magazine.

“I was ready to just say, ‘OK. Let's go,'” Durant told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne in July.

Sitting at 30-5 on the season with the NBA's best record, Durant seems to be fine where he's at.

Irked by the boos he received upon his return to Boston in November, the Warriors small forward said about a very rowdy Celtics' fan base, telling ESPN's Chris Haynes that he has “no attachment to Boston at all.”
